Snapchat Memories was recently released to help you relive past snaps and re-share your favourite ones with friends. Here’s our 2 minute guide on what you should know about the latest update to the app.
What is it?
Snapchat Memories is built right into the app and allows you to share images or videos from your phone’s camera roll. It also lets you share snaps and stories you’ve previously saved.
What’s it good for?
From Snapchat’s own blog –
You can use Memories to create new Stories from Snaps you’ve taken, or even combine different Stories into a longer narrative! It’s fun to celebrate an anniversary or birthday by finding a few old Snaps and stringing them together into a new Story 🙂
Snapchat is essentially jumping on the nostalgia trend. Similar to what Facebook and Google do with their “on this day” posts. In a time when user sharing is down this makes for quick and easy inspiration. Ultimately Snapchat’s motive is to increase active users.
What does Snapchat Memories mean for brands?
For brands this tackles two big issues that might have kept Snapchat off of their radar.
First it allows you to reuse content beyond the 24hr shelf life that Snapchat enforces with it’s stories feature. You could save an entire story from one day and re-use it two or three more times that week.
Second, it allows users and brands to create content ahead of time and load it from their camera roll. Which means content can be created and approved days or weeks before being posted – something that was previously impossible.
So far most brands are using the feature sparingly but I think you’ll soon start to see them replaying snaps from live events or getting more out a single piece of content.
How are you seeing the Memories feature used in your timeline?
